Preamble
Safety Management has been the vital consideration since the starting of the Industrialization. The world has witnessed phenomenal improvement in managing Safety, Health & Environment in the workplace. Our fundamental ethos of safety management has been able to come up with feasible solutions in handling emerging risks as a result of rapid automations and new technological advancements till date.
Exponential change in technology, accompanied with unforeseen and entirely different risk patterns is inevitable in today's scenario, throwing challenges to the new generation.
To ensure that the new generation is capable of integrating fundamental safety management practices with artificial intelligence, machine learning and other advanced technologies to mitigate evolving risk, it has been imperative to re-emphasize and remind our youth on basics of EHS management. Realizing these current concerns, Safety & Quality Forum of The Institution of Engineers (India) has decided to conduct 20th Safety Convention on theme “Back to Basics for Strengthening EHS & Sustainable Foundation” during September 11-13, 2023 at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi
20th Safety Convention will focus on the most important "thing" required these days; that is relearning and re-emphasizing the basics. To ensure that the values and beliefs that will result in safe behaviors are embodied in the culture of an organization and embraced at all levels. When this occurs, the result is inevitably that all employees are trained, equipped and protected at the highest levels possible. They possess the attitudes and beliefs that will impact their decision-making related to safety, health and the environment every day, at work and at home. This applies not only to those at work in line positions, but equally to corporate and site management & line/labor leaders.
It has become imperative that all levels of employees, not just line workers, receive training in hazard identification and proper procedures, and that they be encouraged to develop the attitudes, beliefs and thinking that lead to safe behaviors both on and off the job. Similarly, company leaders (line/labor and management) need training in order to effectively communicate, coach and provide constructive correction to ensure that proper attitudes and behaviors are in place and are not at risk of being undermined by other priorities and pressures.
